Long before the sign goes up in the yard, these 8 tips will help you get your home more than show-ready.
Remove the clutter. Professional stagers might remove as much as 50% of your furnishings. Since you’re going to be moving anyway, now is a good time to either get rid of items you no longer need or pack up rarely-used ones. Every little bit of space helps.
Clean. Give the house a good deep spring cleaning. If a buyer sees dust, they might just wonder how well the home is maintained.
Add lighting. Many homes are poorly lit. Mix up the lighting with a variety of ambient, task, and accent. How much lighting is best? About 100 watts per 50 sq. ft.
Give cabinets a face lift. If your cabinets are dated and you can’t afford to replace them, then give them a face lift. Replacing even just the doors, drawer fronts, or hardware can really freshen up the look without breaking the bank.
Add color. But keep it neutral. Of course, neutral doesn’t mean white or beige. Try soft blues, greys, or greens. Neutral colors can help lessen the impact of dated finishes that might be too costly to replace.
Make the bedroom relaxing. You don’t need a new bed to create a relaxing space. Make potential buyers want to stay forever with new bedding. If the room looks empty, adding an inexpensive air mattress on a frame with great-looking bedding can do the trick.
Spice up the bathroom. We all like going to a spa for a relaxing treat. Create the feel in your bathroom with rolled up towels, decorative soaps and candles, and a small plant or two.
Change the spare bedroom. Using the spare bedroom as a home gym? Put it back when it’s time to sell. Even though it’s a bedroom, people may not be able to visualize it as one. Or they may feel the house doesn’t have enough overall room.
