As a homeowner, having a small bathroom doesn’t mean you have to throw in the towel! You can use textures and colors to really give your bathroom a visual lift! Sometimes it’s not so much what to do, but what not to do. Here’s 10 space-saving tips to make the most of a small bathroom in your home.
.Texturize, but don’t overdo in bathrooms that get daily use. Too many textured materials collect mold and mildew. Avoid carved vessel sinks or floor tiles with indentations.
.Exercise care with no-enclosure showers with floor drains. Euro showers allow for a feeling of openness, but many US contractors don’t know how to waterproof the floor for them. Faulty installs mean faulty tile seals, which can cause the materials to decompose, and water to leak underneath.
.Use opaque windows and skylights to let light into your bathroom. This will save yourself overusage of high-wattage light bulbs.
.Get fixtures with a single handle rather than separate hot and cold taps. Consider using space-saving gearshift faucets to accomplish this.
.Save space with wall-mounted toilets. Keep in mind, however, that the water tank goes into the wall.
.Use wall-mount faucets to make a smaller-depth vanity work in a small space. You may be able to trim two inches off your vanity with a wall-mount faucet.
.Check the spacing between the handles and the faucet of any space-saving fixtures. The sink should be functional with enough space to slip a hand in for cleaning.
.Go European! Set up glass walls between the bathroom and bedroom to create the illusion of space. Or put bathroom fixtures in the bedroom just outside the bath.
.Forget pedestal sinks. They’re great-looking sinks, but they’re all form and no function. There’s no space to set anything down.
.Avoid Wall-mounted vanities. Wall-mounted vanities seem like space savers, but they create dead space between the vanity and the floor — this space accumulates junk and is difficult to clean.
