From April 2014 to March 2015, Chinese buyers accounted for $28.6 billion in US residencial real estate, according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR). The report stated that 86% of Chinese Americans believe Feng Shui will play a role in future homebuying decisions.
So, what is Feng Shui? Simply put, “Feng” means “wind” and “Shui” means “water.” Feng Shui is a system of rules governing the arrangement and orientation of furniture and building design to create a harmonious flow of energy.
Here’s a few easy things that you can do in your home to improve its Feng Shui.
1. Clear the clutter. 64% of Chinese-Americans want an organized, clutter-free kitchen.
2. Mirror placement. 34% of Chinese-Americans find importance in placing mirrors away from beds.
3. Colors. 32% of Chinese-Americans look for complimetary colors in the kitchen. A color wheel can be of great help.
4. Bed placement. 41% of Chinese-Americans want to see the bed not directly facing the door and accessible from all angles.
5. Green thumb. 18% look for live plants in the bathroom. Oh, and be sure to keep the toilet lid down!
6. Traffic flow. Experts of Feng Shui say that a home should not have anything that keeps people from feeling that they can’t move around in it.
And here are some things that could be deal-breakers.
1. 31% of Chinese-Americans don’t want a house on a dead-end street.
2. 29% of Chinese-Americans don’t like stairs directly facing the door.
3. 24% of Chinese-Americans don’t want the front and back doors aligned.
